The Best Skin of Your Life for your Wedding (unedited version)

Getting married is a big life event and quite rightfully so. It is a transition into a lifetime of togetherness and companionship. Homing is a human instinct that is made that much more meaningful by traveling the path in marriage. The bridegroom’s desire to look and feel their best on this occasion is as old as the institution of marriage itself. From a psychological perspective, it can be viewed as one’s readiness to settle into the ultimate status change.

It is rather simple to get your skin in its best health and appearance for your wedding. However, it is imperative to follow a daily skin care routine punctuated by more elaborate weekly rituals to get your skin ready to look amazing for your big event. Starting 4-6 weeks before the wedding date is a great way to work with your skin’s natural rhythm. Skin cells shed about once a month, and nourishment and care during this span can ensure that the freshly surfaced skin is at its best health and glow.

Here are the guidelines. Commit them to memory or tape them to your bathroom mirror. In other words, follow the routine to achieve the best results.

1.Cleaning the interior

A flawless complexion goes hand-in-hand with a healthy and detoxified body. Unhealthy habits like smoking and excessive drinking can leave prominent telltale signs on your skin.

*Smoking constricts the blood vessels and seriously limits the amount of oxygen received by all the body’s organs including the skin. This can seriously impact the suppleness and tone of your skin. The good news is that your body begins to attempt recovery within the first few days of quitting.

* While a glass of red wine occasionally can have some health benefits, excessive drinking causes serious dehydration, causing your skin to look dry and puffy. Alcohol also leeches out vitamins and minerals from the body, and skin shows this by appearing blotchy and discolored. So limit your drinking to none to an occasional glass of red wine, particularly during the month before your wedding date.

* In addition to plenty of water and healthy meals, include fresh fruit and a daily supplement of good quality multivitamins. This will support the body as it cleans and rejuvenates.

*Sleep well. Little sleep deprives your body of the vitality that is clearly reflected in the appearance of your skin. With the activity and pre-wedding excitement, it can be hard to make enough time to rest. Nonetheless, an important component of looking and feeling great is at least 6-8 hours of undisturbed and deep sleep.

2.Caring for your face and neck

Daily regimen

A basic daily skin care routine (AM and PM) means that your skin gets adequate nourishment externally to complement its natural attempts at remaining in balance. In addition daily care is essential to supplement nourishment lost due to environmental factors like weather and pollution.

*Cleanse: An ideal cleanser to use is sulfate-free (mild), and won't disturb the natural acid mantle of your skin (PH balanced). Cleansing rids your skin of dirt, grime and excess oils and readies it for the next steps. Simply wet your skin and massage in the cleanser for 2-3 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

* Tone: Spray a generous mist of your toner all over your face and neck just after you have cleansed. Toning closes the open pores of your skin, and improves the overall tone and texture of your skin. As your skin habituates itself to the toner, it should begin to look taut and youthful. A good quality toner is alcohol-free and based on a natural astringent like rosewater. In addition, it can have some targeted natural active ingredients in it that are most suitable for your skin type.

* Nourish & repair: Serums are indispensible to radiant skin. They have higher percentages of specific ingredients that travel deep within the skin to renew and repair it. A few drops or a pea-sized amount is generally just enough to do the work. Apply it when your skin is still a bit damp from toning. Be sure to cover your neck area, which tends to show signs of neglect even sooner than the facial skin.

*Moisturize: Apply a generous amount of a lightweight lotion on your face and neck area with gentle upward strokes. Massage your skin for a few minutes until the lotion seeps in. Blot the excess with a facial tissue. A lightweight lotion is taken up the skin readily, and doesn’t leave it feeling greasy and overloaded. Remember that it is the active ingredients that matter the most. A lotion due to its lightweight is capable of carrying the actives deeper within.

*Revitalize your eyes: Drinking plenty of water, getting enough sleep, and an eye care routine can go a long way to banish those stubborn under-eye circles and puffiness. The skin around your eyes is very delicate and prone to reacting to the chemicals in skin care products. Choose a natural and chemical-free eye serum to do the job. A great active ingredient in an eye serum is cucumber extract, which has been used for centuries and across the globe for optimal eye care. Use your ring fingers to minimize pressure while applying the serum all over and around your eye area.

 Weekly regimen

*Take the extra time once (or twice) a week to exfoliate. A facial scrub with fine grains and natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids (eg. citrus oils) accelerates the shedding of the dead skin cells.

*Follow with a face & neck massage. You can use a generous amount of your daily serum or lotion and massage your skin with gentle, upward strokes with it (work against the gravity). After 5-7 minutes of massaging, blot the excess with a facial tissue.

*Apply a mask on your face and neck, and rest while it dries. Masks are excellent to detoxify and repair the skin. As they dry, masks help increase the blood circulation to the skin, and blood brings with it oxygen and nutrition. Remember to moisturize after the mask has been washed off.

3. Caring for your body

Daily regimen

A daily body care routine does not have to be complicated. Ensure that you shower with lukewarm water. While cold water decreases blood flow, hot water can severely dehydrate your skin causing dryness and flakiness. Handmade bar soaps can be a wonderful alternative to gel washes! They are rich in vegetable glycerin, and the best ones with natural essential oils have wonderful skin soothing benefits. Decrease the duration of showers to prevent the depletion of your body's natural oils. Apply a body/massage oil to enhance your body’s moisture levels and softness. With this routine you should be in your best skin for your wedding.

Weekly Regimen

Getting weekly oil massages 4-6 weeks prior to your wedding date will work wonders! Not only do the essential fatty acids and proteins in the oils nourish you from head to toe, the firm motions of a good massage relax you deeply. And this combination of bodily nourishment and mental relaxation is bound to radiate from you when you want it to the most. A head to toe body scrub once every fortnight is a great prelude to a massage. As the top layer of dead cells is shed, your skin is in the best shape to receive maximum benefits from a massage.
