Although we can outgrow puberty and experience fewer breakouts as we get older, acne scarring can be a major bump in the road (no pun intended) that prevents us from having beautiful skin. They are constant reminders of the awkward and foolish teens we used to be. We spent hours agonizing over how to get rid of our acne, and then we popped them when it felt like we had no other choice, ignoring every parent’s advice in the process. While it seemed like we had fixed the problem, we actually had made a new one, in the form of an unsightly scar.

Acne scars are frustrating, and treatments to eliminate them are typically very expensive and involve harsh chemicals. Many also have negative side effects, such as excessive dryness and skin sensitivity. However, if you wish to take a more natural approach, acne scars can be dealt with effectively. If you regularly apply any of these ten remedies I have listed below, you will be one step closer to skin that does not appear to have had acne scars ever!

1. Rosehip Oil to Nourish Scarred Skin

Did you know that roses are capable of bear fruit, called rosehip? Rosehip oil, which is extracted from that fruit, has a high fatty acid content, specifically linoleic acid (an Omega-6 fatty acid) and linolenic acid (an Omega-3 fatty acid). In addition to nourishing the skin, fatty acids help regenerate the skin and remove acne scars in the process.

Despite rosehip oil’s namesake, it will not smell like a rose nor have its color. That’s actually a good thing because those are two strong indicators that the oil is refined. If you want to acquire rosehip oil for yourself, be sure to distinguish between rosehip oil and rose petal oil because the latter is derived from the flower, not the fruit.

Ingredients

1 tsp. of rosehip oil

10 drops of Vitamin E oil

Instructions

Mix the ingredients and massage it onto your face for 2 to 5 minutes.

Leave it on for 10 minutes.

Wash with warm water. Follow with your daily skin care routine.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

2. Apple, Pineapple, & Banana to Fade Acne Scars

Combining apples, pineapples, and bananas together is a fun sweet treat, but they also synergize well when it comes to your blemishes. The ascorbic acid in pineapples and the malic acid in apples can fade acne scars and even out your skin tone. Plus, lutein is an antioxidant in bananas that helps reduce inflammation to help prevent future breakouts and scarring.

Ingredients

1 tsp. of fresh apple juice

10 drops of fresh pineapple juice

1 tsp. of banana paste

Instructions

Mix ingredients and massage onto your face for 2 to 5 minutes.

Leave it on for 10 minutes.

Wash with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

3. Turmeric & Sandalwood Powder for an Even Skin Tone

Turmeric is excellent for acne scarring because of the curcumin in it. Curcumin is a compound that has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties; it cleans your pores

of acne-causing bacteria and diminishes swelling caused by acne. Meanwhile, sandalwood powder is commonly known as a skin-lightening agent in Ayurveda. According to a study, sandalore, a synthetic form of sandalwood, is also potent because when skin cells smell it, they heal faster.

Ingredients

¼ tsp. of turmeric

1 tbsp. of sandalwood powder

Almond milk, as needed

Instructions

Mix turmeric powder and sandalwood powder into a bowl.

Add enough almond milk until you get a paste.

Massage paste onto your face for 2 to 5 minutes. Leave on for 10 minutes.

Wash with warm water. Follow with your daily skin care routine.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

4. Papaya & Aloe Vera to Accelerate Skin Renewal

Aloe vera contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds like polysaccharides and gibberellins that heal acne and enhance the cell renewal rate of your skin. Papaya has an enzyme called papain; it will exfoliate your face to get rid of dead skin cells and minimize the appearance of acne scars and stubborn marks by encouraging the growth of healthy skin cells.

Ingredients

1 tsp. of mashed papaya

1 tsp. of aloe vera gel, preferably fresh and organic

Fuller’s earth clay or Bentonite clay, as needed

Instructions

Mix mashed papaya and aloe vera gel into a bowl.

Add enough clay until you get a paste.

Massage mask onto your face for 2 to 5 minutes. Leave on for 10 minutes.

Wash with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

5. Jojoba Oil & Vitamin E Oil for Acne-Fighting Antioxidants

Jojoba oil is anti-inflammatory and is a great skin nourisher; using it will soften your skin, decrease acne-related redness, and begin to fade blemishes. When you combine jojoba oil with Vitamin E oil, you will receive a concentrated burst of antioxidants, which are necessary to repair damage and allow healthier cells to surface.

Ingredients

1 tsp. of jojoba oil

6 drops of Vitamin E oil
