If you have found that red or white vinegar is too harsh or too sour for your liking, you may have used apple cider vinegar (sometimes called ACV) instead. ACV has easily become a staple found in many kitchens today; from sauces and dressings to dips and more, apple cider vinegar can add enough tartness to a dish to make it pop. Beyond food, however, there are a few unconventional ways that people utilize to get the most out of this natural ingredient. For instance, some people drink a tiny amount of apple cider vinegar here and there, as a way to stave off hunger and high cholesterol. Not only that, many people use apple cider vinegar on their skin in order to reduce the appearance of many skin issues and improve skin glow.

Here are 3 reasons why you must start adding apple cider vinegar to your skin care routine. You will also learn how to make 3 ACV-based home remedies for glowing, blemish-free skin. While these remedies are quite powerful, apple cider vinegar is not inherently meant for all skin types. If your skin is sensitive, make sure to perform a patch test before trying any of these remedies.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar Can Balance Your Skin & Leave It Glowing

Using apple cider vinegar on your skin might not seem like a wise choice. ACV is known for being acidic, and that could make you think that it is bad for your skin. However, apple cider vinegar’s acidic nature can actually be a good thing. Your skin needs to be at a certain pH in order to better protect itself; if it is too acidic or too alkaline, your skin will become more vulnerable to skin issues like irritation and dryness. By using apple cider vinegar on your skin, you can restore and balance your skin’s natural pH so that your skin is able to withstand many things.

The reason why many people may have a negative experience applying apple cider vinegar externally is that they are not diluting it beforehand. Apple cider vinegar is very potent; when it is undiluted, apple cider vinegar strips your skin of its natural oils and cause mild to severe dryness, redness, and irritation. As a result, you should never use apple cider vinegar undiluted, especially if you have sensitive skin. If you plan on trying ACV, make sure that you mix in some water (3 parts water to 1 part apple cider vinegar) or mix it into a home remedy.

Ingredients

8 drops of apple cider vinegar (ACV)

1 tbsp. of oat flour

Brewed coffee, as needed

Instructions

Mix the apple cider vinegar and oat flour together. Add enough brewed coffee to the mixture until you get a paste.

Apply the mixture and leave it on for 12 to 15 minutes.

Wash it off with warm water. Follow with your toner, serum, and lotion.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

Notes

Since apple cider vinegar might cause dryness for some even when used in small amounts, you should always apply your face lotion afterward.

"...the Apsara products did work, and they faded lots of dark spots that I had on my face. They are pretty much, I would say, almost gone."

2. Apple Cider Vinegar Can Eliminate Acne & Leaves Your Skin Spotless

Apple cider vinegar has been known to combat acne and other blemishes on your skin because it has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Acne usually forms due to a bacterial infection; bacteria can grow within your pores and cause inflammation, blackheads, whiteheads, et cetera. As a result, apple cider vinegar is capable of being an effective cleansing agent when used on your skin. By purging your pores of dirt, oil, and bacteria, your acne and blemishes may start to look less noticeable within a short amount of time.

Using apple cider vinegar regularly for your acne can be extremely beneficial, too. In addition to seeing less acne over time, apple cider vinegar may be able to diminish acne scars because it can serve as a natural chemical peel. ACV contains alpha hydroxy acids, which help exfoliate your skin and diminish the appearance of scars as well as other marks and blemishes. This effect can leave your skin looking spotless, glowing, and acne-free.

Ingredients

12 drops of apple cider vinegar (ACV)

½ tsp. of mashed papaya

1 tbsp. of fuller's earth or bentonite clay

Rosewater, as needed

Instructions

Mix the apple cider vinegar, papaya, and clay of your choice together. Add enough rosewater to the mixture until you get the consistency of ketchup.

Apply the mask and leave it on for 12 to 15 minutes.

Wash the mask off with warm water. Follow with a daily skin care routine based on your skin type. Click here to find out what your skin type is.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar Can Give You a More Youthful, Blemish-Free & Stunning Complexion

Speaking of alpha hydroxy acids, they are key to attaining more glowing and youthful skin. When these acids exfoliate your skin, they are removing the top layer of dead skin cells, which allows softer and more youthful skin cells to surface. This results in fewer lines, wrinkles, and blemishes as well as more glowing skin. As stated above, apple cider vinegar has plenty of alpha hydroxy acids, the most prominent one being malic acid.

Apple cider vinegar is also useful for youthful skin because it is an astringent. This means that ACV can help diminish the appearance of open pores and reduce excess oiliness, perfect for those with oily skin. If you don’t use a toner regularly (which you definitely should!), apple cider vinegar can achieve the same effect so that your skin looks firmer and tighter.

Ingredients

8 drops of fresh lemon juice

12 drops of apple cider vinegar (ACV)

1 tbsp. of mashed banana

Instructions

Mix the ingredients together.

Apply and massage your skin with this mixture for 3 to 5 minutes. Leave it on for 8 minutes.

Wash the mixture off with warm water. Then, use your daily skin care routine.

Use 1 to 2 times a week.
