Even though we all want to grow thick, luscious hair, none of us wants to wake up in the morning and see that hair...around our lips! If you’re not actively trying to grow facial hair, it can be embarrassing and a pain to deal with. We don’t want our facial hair to give a whole new meaning to the phrase “peach fuzz.” It may be cold, but our “lip sweaters” are not the solution to stay warm.

There are many ways to deal with unwanted facial hair, but a lot of them aren’t worth it. Prescription drugs designed to inhibit hair growth fill your body with harmful chemicals. Waxing is a more natural approach to hair removal, but it is often painful and it can burn your skin. Waxing may also cause acne breakouts. Of course, you could opt to shave, but that requires more upkeep than waxing.

What most people don’t know is that there are natural approaches for hair removal. These methods use natural ingredients, and most of them are painless. Plus, these remedies do not require a lot of hassle. Here are 6 home remedies that you can use to remove those pesky whiskers at home.

1. A Sugar(ing) Sweet Remedy to Remove Facial Hair

If you like the effectiveness of waxing but you hate the pain associated with it, sugaring can be a natural, less painful alternative for hair removal. Unlike hot wax, when warm sugar is applied, it sticks Sugar for unwanted facial hairto the unwanted facial hair, not the skin. While you could use strips of paper or pieces of cloth to remove the sugar, it is easy to take it off by itself after it hardens into a soft gel. Sugaring will also not irritate the skin so it is a good option for people with sensitive skin. Your skin will still be sensitive after this process, but because of sugar’s exfoliating properties, your skin will also be soft and the hairs will grow more slowly. Furthermore, sugaring involves three simple ingredients: sugar, lemon, and water. There are no harsh chemicals involved with sugaring, and you can still get the results you want. There are plenty of places where you can get a professional sugaring, but if you want to do it at home, follow this remedy:

Ingredients

2 cups of sugar

¼ cup of lemon juice

⅛ cup of water

Instructions

Before starting, make sure your face is cleansed, not oily, and dry.

Mix ingredients together in a saucepan over medium heat.

Slowly bring mixture to a boil. Keep mixing so it does not burn or stick to the pan.

After it starts to boil, turn the heat down and let the mixture simmer until it turns golden brown.

Let the mixture cool down for at least 15 minutes. Before you start sugaring, the mixture should be warm but it should not burn your skin.

When it’s cool, apply the sugar gel to the affected areas.

Once it hardens, pull it off against the direction of hair growth. You can also flick the gel off into tiny balls.

Follow with your lotion to soothe sensitive skin.

Information

Before you follow this recipe, make sure that your unwanted hair is at least a quarter inch long.

6. Lavender & Tea Tree Oil to Soothe & Inhibit Hair Follicles

According to a study, using lavender oil and tea tree oil can assist with hair removal. For women, hair growth in the chest, face, or back areas of the body is often caused by irregulated androgens - for example, testosterone; the more androgens in your body, the more likely your body will develop hair. While lavender oil and tea tree oil does not decrease the number of androgens in your body, they do block their effectiveness, leading to less hair growth over time.

Ingredients

2 drops of lavender oil

2 drops of tea tree oil

3 tbsp. of rosewater

Instructions

Mix ingredients together.

Apply to skin with a cotton ball and let it dry.

Follow with toner, serum, and lotion. Use twice a day.
