We can all agree that everyone wants to do their part to make the world a better place. Some of us are able to donate money and other resources to charitable causes while others have the time to volunteer at places where help is greatly needed. If you aren’t in a position to do either of those things, don’t fret. You can still make a difference by making a change to sustainable products.
But what does sustainable mean, at least when it concerns your skin care products? Given how often words like “eco-friendly”, “recyclable”, and “green” are spoken and tossed around, you may not have a clear understanding of what sustainability is and why it matters. Today, we will do our best to clear the air. In this article, we will talk about why you should choose sustainable skin care products and how a sustainable skin care routine can have a positive effect on the world around you as well as the glow and vitality of your skin.
Sustainable Skin Care Is Good for the Environment
At their core, sustainable products are those that do not have a negative impact on their environment throughout their life cycle, from preparation and production all the way to consumption and disposal. In order for a product to be sustainable, you have to consider not just the product itself but also the materials used to make it. With skin care, you have to look at a product’s formulation as well as the packaging and production processes.
Sustainability should be an important factor in your purchasing decisions because in this day and age, we should always be thinking about how much waste we produce on a daily and annual basis and how that has an impact on the environment. For example, if you want to throw away an unfinished facial serum bottle, for it to be considered sustainable, the bottle should be recyclable and the formulation should not tamper with the environment after you wash the bottle out. If that serum is made with synthetic ingredients, it is not a sustainable product.
While the issue of sustainability does make your purchasing decisions more complicated, the point of it is to ensure that the planet continues to be hospitable and fruitful for future generations. Even if it takes you more time to do that research to figure out which products you should buy, that is definitely worth it to keep our environment safe and stable.

Sustainable Skin Care Is Good Karma
A lot of people misinterpret the criteria for sustainable products as environmentally friendly, when in reality, there is a societal criterion as well. Sustainable products should not have a negative impact on or be a negative influence in society. For example, if a product is organic yet is made by the process of animal testing, it would not be considered sustainable. Again, this will require you to do more research, but ideally, you should care about the business practices of the companies you regularly buy from, especially if they create products that you really like. Using ethics to guide your purchasing decisions is not a new idea, and it’s in your best interest to find out what is in a particular product and how it’s made.
When it comes to your skin care routine, you should feel comfortable with the products you use because a healthy attitude can go a long way. Remember, the journey to glowing, youthful skin starts from within, and by choosing sustainable skin care products, you can rest easy knowing they aren’t harming the environment or the people that made them.
Sustainable Skin Care Is Good for Your Skin
Of course, it goes without saying that we wouldn’t heartily recommend sustainable skin care products if they weren’t effective at helping you get glowing, youthful skin. Sustainable skin care products are typically made with natural ingredients, which you should always prioritize with your beauty care routine because they are far less likely to do any damage to your skin (provided you don’t have allergies to certain ingredients). On the other hand, products made with harsh chemicals like parabens and phthalates may cause more problems than they intend to solve. Harsh chemicals can irritate your skin and make it more prone to inflammation, redness, and swelling. With regular usage, harsh chemicals could damage your skin and lead to dullness, premature aging, and dark spots. Plus, given that they are made in a lab and not based on nature, these harsh chemicals could contaminate the environment when you dispose of them.
Keep in mind that “sustainable” and “all-natural” are not equivalent. For example, an all-natural product may not be considered sustainable if the product and its production have a conflicting or divisive impact on society. Overall, though, by doing your research and finding out which skin care products are both sustainable and all-natural, you can make an awesome choice in your beauty care routine that is good for the environment as well as your skin.
